01 / THE OPERATING SYSTEM
An examined idea. A working result.
I like problems that require both interpretation and construction. A market standard that must become a system requirement. A process that depends on knowledge nobody has written down. A body of regulation that needs to become a usable implementation resource.
My formation taught me to stay with difficult material. Theology required close reading and sustained argument. Scholastic reasoning taught me to define terms, make distinctions and take objections seriously. Religious life demanded sacrifice and consistency when conviction became inconvenient.
Founding a business taught me to turn specialised knowledge into a service, earn clients’ confidence and take responsibility for delivery. Banking brought me into financial infrastructure: the standards through which institutions communicate, the systems through which markets operate, and the organisational challenges of changing either.
Today I combine those habits with automation and AI. I investigate the problem, build something concrete and examine what happens when it meets the work.

Find the consequential distinction: between a rule and a habit, a missing fact and a flawed assumption, a useful tool and an impressive demonstration.

Connecting market standards with operational reality
Financial markets depend on institutions being able to interpret information consistently and act through interoperable systems. My work in corporate actions places me where market standards, financial infrastructure and internal processes meet.

I am particularly interested in fixed income securities processing, financial messaging standards and the dependencies between institutions and systems. I investigate how market requirements translate into operational behaviour, where interpretations diverge and what a change requires from business and technology.

A process includes more than its documented steps. It also includes the person who recognises an unusual case, the workaround that keeps the day moving and the incentive that makes an apparently sensible change difficult to adopt.

Business administration and organisational theory shape how I investigate these realities. I ask where knowledge resides, how decisions are made and what people need to work differently. My automation projects grow from that understanding: parsers, reporting tools and controls built around recurring operational problems.

I use AI to investigate unfamiliar material, structure knowledge and build working websites and tools. It lets me move between research, writing, design and implementation with greater independence.

My independent projects organise regulation and market infrastructure into resources for learning and implementation. I define the questions, examine sources, shape the content and work iteratively on the result. The standard is whether someone can understand the subject and do something useful with it.

A structured learning environment for analysts approaching financial crime data architecture and business analysis. It brings foundational concepts and practical applications into a guided learning path.
A research and readiness resource for Europe’s transition to T+1 settlement, bringing together market context, infrastructure dependencies and questions that implementation teams need to resolve.
A working reference for the EU Instant Payments Regulation, with particular attention to Denmark and Sweden. Designed to connect regulatory requirements with implementation questions across business and technology.
AI makes the distance between an idea and a working prototype dramatically shorter. That gives greater practical weight to intellectual range, command of language, historical understanding, judgment and imagination.
Someone still has to recognise a worthwhile problem, formulate it clearly and decide what a good answer would require. Someone has to notice when the result is persuasive but wrong, or technically capable but poorly suited to the people using it.
This is where I want to work: developing useful applications of AI, with enough understanding of the subject and the organisation to carry an idea beyond its first demonstration.
I bring the habits of a reader, the experience of an operator and the willingness to build.

My interests extend well beyond my profession. They give me different ways to examine human ambition, institutional durability and technological change. They are also pursuits I value in their own right.

Civilisation, continuity & rupture
The late Bronze Age, republican Rome and late antiquity fascinate me because they expose different relationships between political order, economic interdependence, belief and power.
I am interested in what holds a complex society together, what it fails to recognise about itself and what survives when its institutions change. History gives me a longer perspective on claims that the present is either unprecedented or permanent.

Patristics, Neoplatonism & scholastic reasoning
Patristics draws me into the encounter between inherited philosophy, religious conviction and a changing world. Neoplatonism opens questions about unity, intelligibility and the relationship between what we perceive and what we can know.
Scholastic thought gives those interests a demanding argumentative discipline: define the question, distinguish meanings, confront objections and show how the conclusion follows. I value both its ambition towards universal knowledge and its patience with particulars.

Organisations, markets & political power
Business administration, international business and organisational theory help me examine how collective intentions become results. I am interested in knowledge creation, incentives, coordination and the distance between formal structures and actual behaviour.
Political science extends those questions to legitimacy and authority. My reading includes accelerationism and the Dark Enlightenment, particularly their arguments about technology, institutional stagnation and power. They are subjects for critical examination, including scrutiny of their assumptions about human ends and political accountability.

Letters, imagination & technical possibility
Literature and philosophy enlarge the range of situations I can imagine and the precision with which I can describe them. Language helps formulate a problem before a specification exists; imagination makes it possible to consider an arrangement that has not yet been built.
Automation, distributed ledgers and AI give these questions a practical dimension. I am interested in what becomes possible when someone can move from understanding a subject to designing and testing a tool within it.
